Barbara
Meyers is a Human-Animal Bond Consultant, Certified Grief Therapist and Animal
Behaviorist in private practice on Staten Island.
In addition to her health career background, she has been certified in Thanatology (the academic and practical knowledge of dying, death, grief & mourning) in association with her study with Dr. J. William Worden of the Harvard University Child Bereavement Study. She is a Symposia Lecturer at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, a University seminarian and Associate Faculty Member in Death Studies at Columbia University in New York.
Her animal behavior / ethology skills have been gained with the Center for Applied Animal Behavior in Berkeley, California & Dr. Eric Klinghammer of Wolf Park, Indiana.
She is certified in the use of Bach and other Flower Essence therapy and is considered the outstanding expert on the use of these remedies in animals.
She is the author of numerous articles in peer reviewed, professional publications, magazine and newspapers. She has co-authored three books on the subject of dying, grief & mourning, has recently completed a book on the same subject for children.
An active member of many professional and humane/animal rights organizations, she has lectured internationally. Her appearances include but are not limited to: National Geographic, CBS Nightly News, The Society of Medical Jurisprudence, The Delta Society, The human-Animal Bond Association of Canada, NY State Association of Veterinary Technicians, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center Student Nurses, Lutheran Hospital, The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, etc.
She is on the Advisory Board of Dogs for the Deaf in OR., New England Assistance Dog Service in MA., National Association of Pet Funeral Directors in PA., & The Council On Pet Assisted Therapy in NYC.
Long distance consultations and supportive therapy and home visits are a regular part of her practice and an initial evaluation (by phone) is available without charge.
